「歡喜人間─佛光山2018徒眾作品聯展」展出序

一年一度的佛光山徒眾作品聯展，在大家的期盼中正式開展。受到星雲大師的支持鼓勵，2018年收件更勝以往，共有126位徒眾報名，359件作品，其中不少人是第一次參加，經過審查挑選208件展出。
佛光山徒眾在法務繁忙之餘把握空檔創作，在有限的時間裡，作品雖以小品居多，但都充滿創意；使用媒材盡是選用隨身可得的，從水彩、水墨、黑筆、鉛筆、色鉛筆，到回收的羅馬旗、報紙，瓶子，乃至樹葉等等，充分體現出家人簡樸與惜物愛物的精神。
「給人歡喜，給人信心，給人希望，給人方便。」大師的四給中，能夠給人歡喜是多麼的珍貴與不容易，因為歡喜必須發自內心。在 星雲大師所推動的人間佛教裡，大師希望佛光山能給人歡喜，並說做人是為歡喜而來。
因此許多第一次來佛光山的人經常驚訝於為什麼這裡的人總是滿臉笑容、儘管不認識但彼此也會互相問候招呼，而法師們總是親切地與訪客問候談話……，大家不妨走進展場，或許可以從徒眾作品聯展中找到答案！
家師 星雲大師常說佛光山的特產就是歡喜，這是大師為眾的悲心所現。誠摯地希望每位來到佛光山的人，離開時記得要把歡喜帶回去。祝福大家！

Joy in the Human World - 2018 Fo Guang Shan Joint Exhibition of Monastic Artworks

The highly anticipated annual Fo Guang Shan Joint Exhibition of Monastic Artworks is officially underway. Encouraged and supported by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the number of art submissions in 2018 is higher than ever. A total of 126 disciples signed up for the exhibition, and many of them are first-time participants. We have selected 208 artworks for the Exhibition from 359 art submissions. The overall artwork quality has improved noticeably and all participants’ efforts are praiseworthy.
In the midst of attending to busy monastic affairs, the disciples created their artworks during their limited free time. Although the artworks are mostly just simple illustrations, they are filled with creative originalities. The usage of materials are all from things readily accessible around them, including watercolor, ink, black pen, pencil, color pencil or recycling pennants, newspapers, bottles, and even leaves. It is a noteworthy demonstration of disciples’ simple living and the spirit of cherishing and loving all things around them.
Among Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Four Givings” of giving others confidence, giving others joy, giving others hope and giving others convenience, one of the most difficult is to give others joy because true joy must come from the depth of one’s heart. In Venerable Master’s propagation of Humanistic Buddhism, it is his hope that Fo Guang Shan can provide joy to others as he believes it is for happiness that we have come into this world as human beings.
Indeed, many people who come to Fo Guang Shan for first time are often surprised by why people here are all smiles. Even if they don’t know each other, they will greet each other. Venerables will always cordially greet and converse with our visitors ......, I suggest you attend the Exhibition and maybe you will find the answer among the joint exhibition of monastic artworks!
Venerable Master always said, the specialty of Fo Guang Shan is joy, an example of his compassions for all beings. I sincerely hope that everyone who comes to Fo Guang Shan remembers to bring joy back with them when they leave. Best wishes to you all!
